Have you ever found yourself saying “It’s a nice place to visit, but I wouldn’t want to live there.”, after spending some time away on vacation? I can remember being in awe of the beautiful mountains I saw while traveling in Switzerland last year, but remarking to my husband that “home” has some pretty beautiful mountains too.  Granted, they’re not the Swiss Alps, but we often forget about the beauty in our own backyards – you know, the grass is always greener syndrome – literally!

When the kids were small, I had to get very creative with their outdoor activities – four kids on a tight budget meant I had some big time planning to do.  Luckily, the Hudson Valley is full of history and beauty to explore – and that’s exactly what we did. Every destination became an adventure – like the time we explored the Sheep & Wool Festival (that’s a story for another time).  I’ve been parenting for 28 years now, and there’s always some new event or destination to discover. With kids or without, there’s something for everyone to do here.

I hope you enjoy this Valley Adventure section and explore some of the wonderful businesses and natural beauty the Hudson Valley has to offer.

So true! As a military brat and career Army officer I lived all over the world, yet I find nowhere so delightful as the hills, mountains and valleys surrounding my home in Western Pennsylvania. Sometimes the beauty we long for is right outside the door.
