The Icicles Tender Thaw

(This post, I thought, was scheduled to appear in March ( so ignore the reference to a few weeks in). I guess God had other plans for it.)

As the temperature rises and the icicles thaw, a glistening show appears outside my window.  With each passing hour, its shape and size change and it’s a reminder that the cold, dark days of winter are melting away.

This winter came with a lot more ice than usual.  I welcomed the “snow day” where I could hunker down inside, getting me away from my normal routine.  When it was safe to venture out, the beauty that surrounded me was breathtaking.  Each tree branch, shrub, or fixture that was exposed to the weather glistened in the sun.

As the sun warms the earth, it also begins to reveal the beauty of what lies underneath.  Another reminder of God’s love and creative Spirit.  We are a few weeks into As we enter into Lent now and I can’t help but think of how The Son is working on melting the hardness of winter from within us.

Lent is a season of preparing for a new joy in our lives; an examination of things in need of new life, invigoration, or healing.  Perhaps it’s your career or health.  Maybe it is your marriage or parenting, or even something spiritual that is in need of a renewal. During these weeks, God is trying to melt away the exterior of our lives so that He can enter in and dwell more intimately in our hearts.

So as the transition from winter to spring reshapes and melts away the icicle, so too, each season brings about new change if we let the Son of God shape us and mold us.  I love this quote by Henry Williamson of the melted ice ‘living again as spring water’. What a beautiful way of seeing that despite the coldness or hardness we create on our exterior when God reshapes us, we are still valuable to be used for His purpose; bringing spring rain for new life and new growth to our world.

“The winter solstice has always been special to me as a barren darkness that gives birth to a verdant future beyond imagination, a time of pain and withdrawal that produces something joyfully inconceivable, like a monarch butterfly masterfully extracting itself from the confines of its cocoon, bursting forth into unexpected glory.”Gary Zukav

I love this post and since my granddaughter is a teenage photographer the photo really caught my eye. It’s late here but I decided to see if I could find some blogs to follow as I’m looking for similar ones to read. I’ve had a blog for a few years but just recently started re-vamping it. Thank you for sharing
